During the first week of the half term holiday, nine girls from Year 9 were hosted by families and girls of our sister school in New York City, The Hewitt School, during the first part of our popular Hewitt Exchange Programme.

Our girls were welcomed on Saturday evening and spent a busy Sunday getting to know their new families. On Monday girls visited Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty alongside the 8th Grade Hewitt Students, which was a great chance to get to know the year group at Hewitt. Girls experienced Drama and Art lessons at The Hewitt School on Tuesday morning, before departing for a visit to the MoMA in the afternoon. Wednesday was the exciting trip to the Long Island Adventure Park Ropes Course (very much like Battersea Park Go Ape!) which, like many things in the USA, was much bigger and scarier!

On Thursday girls were incredibly moved by their visit to the 9/11 memorial and museum and on Friday we enjoyed a walking tour of Greenwich Village with FHS’s faithful tour guide ‘Uncle Jerry’ (who was very happy to see us again). The girls were excellent ambassadors for the school and all made the most of their unique opportunity to get to know such an iconic city.

This exchange will be complemented by a return visit from the Hewitt students and staff in March of 2020. We are looking forward to showing them just how great we are at FHS.
