Hot on the heels of our careers event at Francis Holland Sloane Square, yesterday we were delighted to welcome The University Guys and around 30 university advisers from London and beyond for a fascinating training day. As part of a nationwide tour, The University Guys have been on a mission to improve the knowledge and understanding of teachers across the UK about the opportunities available to their students all over the world. We were delighted to hear from Stefan Watts at Study Options, about opportunities in Australia and New Zealand, from Medical Doorway about European medical schools, and of course from David Hawkins and Sheena Mehta about the value placed on relationships by US colleges and universities.
They pointed out the importance of UK schools demonstrating their interest in international universities, and helpfully suggested small steps that advisers can take to increase their schoolās profile with international universities as well as the value of collaboration between schools to enable students to find out more.
Of our current cohort, over 25% have applied this year for a European or North American university, compared to less than a handful of students when I first started teaching here seven years ago. Itās therefore very important that we stay informed about the extraordinary range of international options available to our students.
Thanks so much to The University Guys for coming.
