We have been running a TEDx event at Francis Holland now since 2020. Each year, just under a third of our Lower Sixth cohort take part and present an idea worth spreading.
This year’s theme was ‘Question Everything’! Our students certainly did! Under the expert guidance of our coach, Maria Garan, they spoke with expertise and enthusiasm on a range of topics including ‘How will the universe end?’, ‘Why was Concord retired from service?’, ‘How does fashion reflect economic trends?’ and ‘How do we stop politics from affecting our relationships?’ – in short, a range of talks as varied as our students themselves. All our Lower Sixth students benefited from a workshop on how to approach online assessments and video interviews, and they also enjoyed a variety of creative workshops, from pottery to Pilates.
Top graduate recruiters tell us that communication and resilience are two of the most important attributes they are looking for in their selection processes; we are very proud of all those who took part as they have really developed these qualities. Congratulations to all those who took part; the talks will be uploaded on to the TEDx Channel on YouTube in September.
