We were delighted to welcome Jeremy Gilley MBE, Founder of Peace One Day, to FHS on Monday. Pupils and staff alike were inspired by Jeremy’s candid account of his journey as a dyslexic child who grew up to find fame as an actor, and then wanted to understand why world peace is so elusive. He founded Peace One Day in 1999 with no funding, just a dream to unite the world behind one day of peace on 21st September. We shared in his delight when he was invited to the United Nations in New York on 11th September 2001 to present Peace One Day to all, only for everything to seemingly fall apart when the planes hit the twin towers.
Jeremy’s audience were captivated when, at a devastating time, he dug deep and persisted in pursuing his dream to the point that this year is the 25th Anniversary of Peace Day. We’re looking forward to marking Peace Day on Friday 20th September in school and encouraging our pupils every half term to pledge to make peace with themselves and/or another to help make our community a better place.
