Summer Festival of Music

02/07/2026

One glorious tradition that we enjoy at FHS is the Summer Festival of Music, an opportunity to turn the FHS playground into a stage and a vibrant music festival. This is a hugely energetic event and a great opportunity for students, parents and teachers to celebrate the successes of the year with glorious refreshments and live music.

The evening started with excellent live solos from student singers which were entirely pupil-led, performances of jazz standards which turn FHS into the most fun jazz venue outside of Ronnie Scott’s. The Year 8s then started with a brilliant bang with something they have been working on in their academic lessons, bringing Brazilian Samba drumming to life with a performance walking across the playground, led by the fantastic Mr Godfrey. It was truly an eclectic evening of musical styles in the best way, with amazing instrumental playing from chamber groups and orchestra, energetic and beautiful singing from the choirs, younger and older, alongside fantastic stand-out solos. It is truly a celebratory event with amazing music from across the FHS student body with older pupils working brilliantly with our youngest students. The evening culminated with the exuberant FHS Band, led by Mr Moore and all students, staff and parents singing the night away.

The utmost thanks must go to all the teachers who prepared the performers, Miss Murata, Miss Vickery, Dr King, Miss Smith, Mr Godfrey, Mr Moore as well as the students who have worked so hard towards these performances. Thank you to all the performers, from the inspiring students to the indomitable staff choir(!) and such a supportive and wonderful audience for a truly joyous summery evening of music. From all in the Music Department, we wish you a brilliant summer and look forward to more musical joy next year!
