On Monday 20th June, the Music Department held their inaugural ‘Summer Festival of Music’, a symphonic celebration of jazz standards, rousing choral tunes, and pop classics. Beginning with a drinks reception in the playground accompanied by a live jazz ensemble, the Senior Hall was transformed into the likes of a cabaret club with seating arranged around tables. As always, the standard of musical talent was outstanding, from lively performances from the Band and Jazz Vocal Group, to softer performances of student compositions and vocal duets. The night culminated in a rousing performance of Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by the Senior String Group (as requested by LVI compère Eloise) and ABBA’s ‘Dancing Queen’ by the Senior Orchestra, which led to a standing ovation and encore. What a night of music and entertainment to celebrate the last few weeks of the academic year.
