The long anticipated and annual event of the ‘staff vs student’ netball match was held in a befitting manner on the school’s playground on Wednesday 9th June. Staff arrived in numbers to play and have their time on the court against the school’s VII netball team. Spectators lined the side of the court ready to watch what was going to be a closely contested match. This included the VIP guest of Mr ‘Dom’ Coleman who is a longstanding fan/spectator at FHS fixtures.

It was a beautifully sunny day and the match was kicked off by a thrilling performance from the Year 8 Samba workshop. Both teams, equally as strong, were determined to be match winners and showed their excellent skill and fitness after a year away from the court (due to Covid-19). There were stellar performances from Ms Juniper, who was helping to keep the staff ahead with her fantastic shots within the circle. A special mention goes to Mr Casselle, who after netting a fantastic shot from the edge of the D for the staff, had to be escorted off court due to a ruptured Achilles. We wish him all the best for his recovery and look forward to his return to the court next year.

It was an exhilarating match with the score being 8-7 going into the final quarter. The student team was led by Rosie Walsh who was netting goals from all angles in the D. The final quarter, with Mr McDonald Brown as ‘C’, went to the final whistle and the staff snatched the win with a 10-8 result! It was a high intensity game that was filled with fun and laughter from both teams. Rosie Walsh and Eloise Duthie were awarded their full colours at the end of the match to recognise their outstanding contribution to FHS Sport.

The match was a lovely way for the students to finish their sporting career at FHS.
