The Music Department is ending the term with a bang after an exceptionally busy final week featuring not 1 but 2 major concerts.
On Tuesday evening members of the Senior and Year 9 Chamber Choirs went to Harrow to join the tenors and basses there as sopranos and altos in an epic performance of Brahms Requiem with professional soloists and a top notch orchestra. The first half of the concert was a performance of Brahms 2nd Piano Concerto, which resulted in a beautiful Brahms Fest… The students were delighted to sing in this concert, aware of how special it was in the historic speech room at the ancient school.
And then immediately, the day after, we held our very own Spring Concert with quite a different repertoire – Fanny Davies winning performances for the first half featuring many of the leaving UVI students and then a whole school as well as Parent and Staff singers and an orchestra combining the students with some professional musicians in a performance of Mozart’s magisterial Mass in C Minor that the choir have been working on for the last 6 months. The whole evening was a joyful celebration of the music at school and the efforts of all the musicians. It rounds off the Spring Term in rousing style. A Happy Easter to everyone!
