On Friday 5th May, the Sixth Form were delighted to hear from Kirstin Green, a senior civil servant. She came and talked to us about a variety of topics which were extremely relevant to Politics, Economics, History and Geography students. She mainly focused on her work in government working around policy, where she worked in multiple government departments and gave us valuable insight into the inner workings of the civil service. Working in the civil service had not been advertised to us before as a potential career after university or as an apprenticeship, therefore it was very interesting to learn about what the typical day of a civil servant is and what they do day-to-day.
Her talk was particularly relevant to the LVI Politics students who are currently learning about the Prime Minister and the Cabinet and how they work with other parts of government, such as the civil service. Having the opportunity to hear first-hand information about what the civil service is like and how they interact with the government was very beneficial and a great experience. We would like to thank Kirstin Green for giving up her time to come and talk to us about such an interesting topic and her amazing career which helped us learn more about life after Francis Holland.
