On Thursday 29th April, Senior BBC Broadcast Journalist Mantej Deol gave a talk to the Sixth Form as a part of the Speaker Programme.

Mantej shared her experience of being a journalist at the BBC. She gave an insight into what it’s like behind the scenes at BBC News, from how they capture their stories to the typical daily structure that the journalists have. Mantej clearly conveyed the excitement that comes with seeking out news stories and the important role that the news plays. She also highlighted the importance of being accurate when reporting a story.

The talk was finished by a lively Q&A session in which Mantej answered many questions about topics such as fake news, how to be unbiased when reporting the news, and how to get into the world of journalism. Mantej finished her talk by discussing the importance of pursuing a subject that you are passionate about. She said that the most important aspect of being a journalist is being passionate about something, and it is not always about having studied more typically traditional subjects.
