The Sixth Form Enrichment electives are a series of in-school programs that change every term, allowing students to focus on a wide variety of skills that would ordinarily be absent from the academic curriculum. These include DIY, climate change awareness and the effects of music on emotion. I wanted to do the Practical DIY elective as I am aware of the practical benefits and independence gained from being able to operate these tools. The necessity of being able to use hammers and drills in order to construct various IKEA products is a skill that is easily overlooked in modern day-to-day life. So far in DIY, we have familiarised ourselves with various apparatus and have learned how to build a variety of shelves. Each of these consisted of their own latches, screws, and boards that we slowly but surely learned to put together.
