On Tuesday morning the Francis Holland Sloane Sqaure community, along with Year 5 and 6 Prep School pupils, came together for our Act of Remembrance – pausing together to remember and thank God for all those who have given their lives for our freedom. Our service, led by Revd van der Hart, was held overlooking the netball court as is our annual tradition.Ā Our staff choir sung Ave Verum Corpus and our brass and woodwind group, which brings together staff and pupils, played Elgar’s Nimrod. Our special thanks go to Chloe in Year 8, who trumpeted the Last Post and the Reveille. We were delighted to be joined again this year by two Chelsea Pensioners, Marjorie Cole and Phil Carr, who delivered a reading from Binyon’s For the Fallen during the service.
The school is honoured to be a charitable supporter of our wonderful neighbours at the Royal Hospital; last week Revd van der Hart took a group of Year 10 pupils to their Drumhead Remembrance Service, held at the Royal Hospital in advance of Remembrance Day each year. The pupils who attended found it moving to mark Remembrance alongside those who have served in the military, particularly as so few World War II veterans now remain.
