This week Years 2, 3 and 4 all enjoyed a fantastic field trip to the Chelsea Physic Garden!

On Monday, Year 4 braved the weather to excitedly explore the beautiful gardens whilst learning many interesting facts about different habitats from the fabulous education team. Home to an abundance of different plants and animals, the girls were able to explore the grounds to learn about what species lived in each habitat.

A few days later, it was year 2’s turn.  The girls learnt how to become ‘plant hunters’ and were sent on a mission to find pinecones that had been hidden around the garden beds. Once they had mastered their hunting skills, they got to grips with the different parts of a flower. The last activity put their new knowledge to the test as they completed their ‘plant passports’. The girls travelled to various parts of the garden which represented some of the continents, ranging from bamboo in Asia to banana trees in the tropical rainforest. On the walk back to school, the conversation was mainly based on when the girls could go back and visit these beautiful gardens again.

Finally, Year 3 got to explore the gardens! As the weather finally picked up, they met the education team in lovely sunshine to become ‘plant hunters’ too. Firstly, they discussed what skills were important to have as a ‘plant hunter’, and agreed that excellent observational skills, expert knowledge and caring for plants were all very important. With this in mind, they set out in search of pinecones and wonderous plant species from all over the world! After finally spotting the elusive Aloe Vera plant and completing their ‘plant passports,’ the girls returned to the education centre to discuss their findings and thank the excellent education team for their help.
