On Thursday morning, three of our fantastic hockey teams made their way to a sun-drenched Battersea Park for the inaugural FHS Hockey Challenge Cup against our sister school Regent’s Park. Upon arrival, the girls made sure to greet each other warmly, as well as tighten the flowing blue ribbons in their hair before beginning the matches.
The Sloane Square U12 squad put out a wonderful display of skill and technique, developing their structures, and improving their penalty and long corners. Their confidence grew exponentially as the game went on, contributing to the already-competitive nature of the game. The match was tightly contested and finished with FHS Regent’s Park taking the win with 1-0. The player of the match was Saskia, and the coaches’ player of the match was Cora.
The U13 squads had another thrilling game with players battling it out across the pitch and a considerable amount of clashing hockey sticks. As the match went on, it seemed as though it might end in a draw. However, in the last 30 seconds of the match, FHS Regent’s Park unfortunately took the winning point leaving the score 3-2. The player of the match was Elena, and the coaches’ player of the match was Alexa. An absolutely gripping game and an excellent performance from the Sloane Square team.
Finally, our U14 squad took on a polished FHS Regent’s Park team, watched on by the younger years. Utilising their defensive tactics incredibly well, the team held their side against the persistent attacks of the red hoodies and displayed great examples of teamwork and communication. Despite these efforts, Regent’s Park took the win with 2-0. The player of the match was Ellie. An incredible demonstration of FHS grit, resilience and determination.
A huge congratulations to all who took part in this fantastic morning of hockey with our sister school!
Miss James, Head of Senior Games
