On Monday 20th June, the History of Art group went to Sotheby’s to see the preview of two most exciting sales.

We are incredibly grateful for our tour, organised by Caroline Caviezel, Sotheby’s Deputy Director, Valuation Manager, Valuation Department who gave us a fascinating introduction to the Auction House and to two of her colleagues who showed us round the Impressionist and Modern Art Sale and discussed three highlights by Picasso, Modigliani and Rodin. We were also incredibly lucky to see the Lesedi La Rona, the largest rough diamond to be mined for more than a hundred years. At the size of a tennis ball, it is truly breathtaking.
