The FHS Debating club continues to go from strength to strength with membership growing on a weekly basis. It has been a great year in the Club created by Mr. Russell and run by Andrew Ritchie QC. Our twenty club members have all given speeches, made rebuttals and voted each week on which team should win the Oscars, the prize for best speeches. The girls have researched and debated so many topics: banning smoking, abolishing the Monarchy, burning books, whether celebrities are good role models, making veganism compulsory, arming the police, NHS workers’ pay, cosmetic surgery, torture in the national interest and many more.

It has been a revelation to see how brilliant the girls are on their feet speaking. It has been a pleasure to see some supposedly shy girls forcefully putting across their views. The finalists will debate whether contented slavery is better than hungry rebellion on Friday 11th June in the Junior Hall. Two members of Year Six will face two members of Year Five. The event will be live streamed to all those who wish to watch. Thank you to the club members and parents who have helped with their research thus far.
