Four Sixth Formers are taking part in the London-wide Young Reporters scheme as part of the co-curricular programme here at FHS.

Run by Dianna Jarvis who has worked in journalism for over twenty years, the scheme enables pupils to try their hands working as reporters, in what has become a highly competitive industry. It is a great way of experiencing life in the media, working for a real live news organisation and involves pupils in Years 10-11 and Sixth Form. Pupils are able to start their writing career by uploading articles directly onto the Newsquest websites within specified deadlines and categories.

What is involved?

• Students sign up for eight months writing one article per month
• ALL articles are published in online newspapers
• The scheme runs from September 2020 through to April 2021
• All those completing the scheme receive a written recommendation
• At the end of the scheme, there is a chance to go forward and compete for prizes
• Winners receive an undergraduate day at a London University
• Top 33 students attend a Media Award Ceremony
• One student from each age group becomes the face of 2020/21
• Students doing Duke of Edinburgh can do the scheme as one of their skills
