On Tuesday 14th October, the Francis Holland Sloane Square Alumni Association brought together parents and alumni for its latest cultural outing at Tate Modern. The morning began with tea, coffee and pastries – a chance for everyone to catch up and connect before the main event.

The group then gathered in the Starr Cinema for a lecture introducing Theatre Picasso, a landmark exhibition celebrating the centenary of Picasso’s The Three Dancers (1925). The talk delved into Picasso’s lifelong fascination with performance, movement and theatricality, exploring how these themes shaped his work across painting, sculpture and design.

Following the lecture, attendees visited the exhibition, where The Three Dancers took centre stage.  Displayed alongside Tate’s complete Picasso collection, the exhibition featured iconic works such as Weeping Woman (1937) and Nude Woman in a Red Armchair (1932), as well as rarely seen prints, drawings, textiles and collages. Key loans from major Picasso museums in France added further depth to the display.

Many guests remarked on the privilege of seeing such a comprehensive collection in one place, with Picasso’s theatrical inspirations brought vividly to life through thoughtful curation.

A heartfelt thank you to our alumni community and the Francis Holland Sloane Square Alumni Association for making this event possible. And very special thanks to Dina Maktabi, our dedicated Alumni Relations Officer, whose behind-the-scenes efforts made the event such a smooth and memorable success.
