As always, the Francis Holland debate teams have been out and about competing in a variety of competitions.
On Saturday 12th November, Francis Holland Debaters achieved their best ever result in a national Under 18 competition at Birmingham Schools. Following a very early start and three rounds of unprepared debating of motions that included ‘This house would only allow government approved information to be published in the media during health scares’ and ‘This house regrets the effects of technology on education’, Elizabeth and Yasmin, in Sixth Form, were placed 7th out of 64 teams. Lucrezia and Chloe also did very well to come 26th, an impressive achievement for Year 9 girls in a competition dominated by Sixth Form teams (pictured).
On Monday 14th November, we hosted a friendly debate against Latymer Upper and once again FHS girls dominated. The students had 15 minutes to prepare the motion ‘This house would introduce gender quotas in Parliament’. Nicola and Zarah took first place; Elizabeth and Sara took second; the Latymer boys came in third and fourth.
