On Tuesday this week, I happily handed over all leadership and my assembly duty to the brilliant Year 7 and 8 debaters, who argued the motion: “This House believes that Santa should be prosecuted for unlawful trespassing and for exploiting elves.”

We are very grateful to Mr Devenport, who sat patiently on stage as Father Christmas, being critiqued and defended by a very capable team of Year 7 and 8 debaters. It was a real community affair, with members of the debating group speaking, time-keeping, and asking POIs.

A huge well done goes to our six speakers: Cosima, Katie, and Elle-Grace in Year 7, who were defending Mr Devenport, and Isra, Ruby, and Karolina in Year 8 for their brilliant speeches against him. They worked wonderfully together and delivered fantastic speeches in front of an audience of 200 pupils and staff. An additional big thank you must go to Mila in Year 8 for chairing the debate, and to Sara in Year 7 for reading a lovely prayer.

Thank you to everyone involved. It was a very fun and festive morning, and entirely pupil-led!

Miss Wigdahl, Head of Year 7 and Head of Debating
