It’s been a stunning week of fundraising, visits, and volunteering at FHS.

On Tuesday, 14 of our Y7 Charity Reps visited The Katherine Low Settlement for a tour and to chat with the elders and volunteers, accompanied by the dynamic duo of Mme Lenech and Miss O’Neill. KLS staff commented on the great curiosity and courtesy of our younger students as they went on a fact-finding mission ahead of our Christmas Gift Wrapping initiative in November. This was after 3 parents went on a fact finding mission of their own earlier in the day!

Simultaneously (!), 23 Charity Reps (and friends) in Y9, Y10 and Y11 were sorting and packing our considerable Harvest Festival Collection into 110 Harvest Festival Bags to be donated to the In-Deep Community Task Force. Three Y9 Charity Reps visited In-Deep with the most wonderful Mr Mercer on Wednesday to deliver the bags and witness the effect of our community’s generosity. An additional 100kg of ‘extra’ foodstuffs were collected by the Hammersmith and Fulham Foodbank…

…and on Thursday, sorted by 10 Y9 and Y10 Charity Reps, who visited the Hammersmith and Fulham Foodbank warehouse to take part in a ‘sort session’. Accompanied by the excellent double act of Mr Macdonald-Brown and Rev Van Der Hart (who both put in a tremendous shift) as well as tireless parents Mrs Donn and Mrs Haase, the Charity Reps sorted nearly a tonne of food, which will go to fill emergency food parcels in West London in the coming weeks. We are delighted that the parents’ association are supporting the foodbank with their fundraising efforts on their Quiz Night of Monday 11th Nov (get your tickets here).

And, as is now a firmly established tradition at FHS, our first Dress Up Day of the year was an sensational success, with themes and a charity chosen by the students. Y7 and Y8 hygge’d through their lessons having chosen to ‘Dress Cosy’, while Y9, 10 and 11 went with the timeless classic of ‘Dressing as a Boy’ – though I didn’t realise so many 14 year old boys had such flamboyant moustaches? The 6th Form kept it demure and mindful by dressing as Girls… Mean Girls, Spice Girls, Powerpuff Girls, WhoRunsTheWorld? Girls! In all the fun, over £1000 was raised for Mvumi School, Tanzania, which will go to support our sponsored students with their education – a life changing amount!

There was even time for a small Playground Takeover during lunch too – see pics below.

As always, we are so grateful for the support of parents in encouraging student fundraising and volunteering. My own thanks to the staff who have supported all of these initiatives in the same week as an open evening and an inspection!

We want every student to be involved in Outreach in every year of their time at FHS, and to understand the importance of giving their time, their talent, and their treasure for good causes.

…but we just can’t spell ‘fundraising’ without FUN!
