On Tuesday lunchtime, a group of Year 10 pupils showcased a fabulous selection of businesses which they have created as part of our Westmacott Enrichment Programme.

Pick n’ Mix:

After much discussion, we decided to do a Pick and Mix along with baked goods: cookies and cake pops. This was a very valuable experience, and while we were baking, we learnt a lot about the value of money, entrepreneurship and time management. We were very grateful that our stall was so successful, and as a result, we were able to donate £92 to the Mvumi School in Tanzania. On the day of the sale, we learnt about customer management, organisation, and quick thinking. We originally wanted to weigh each bag of sweets, but when we saw our queue of customers, we acknowledged that this would take too long, and we needed to change our methods. So, we decided to price by bag of sweets instead of by weight.

Maison Matcha:

We created a strong brand called ‘Maison Matcha’, and at one point we even had a very long line of customers, which showed people really liked it. It was exciting to see everything come together and work well, and we enjoyed the process of creating the marketing posters. However, we didn’t price the drinks high enough compared to how much we spent, so we didn’t make as much of a profit as we could have. Next time, we would think more carefully about our pricing to make sure we cover our costs and earn more money. We are glad that we could donate a portion of our earnings to the Hammersmith Foodbank!

Cabana Bubble Tea:

The £10 Business Challenge was a stressful, but rewarding experience that taught our team collaboration, communication, and customer service. Creating our own bubble tea business, ‘Cabana Bubble Tea’, was very enjoyable and we’re so lucky to have had this experience and we are so happy that we made a profit. Overall, we’re very grateful that we got to donate to a charity of our own choice, Mvumi School.

Overall, the charity donation totalled £150 – going to Mvumi School and the H+F Foodbank.
