A visitor to Francis Holland Sloane Square today would have been forgiven for thinking that the girls had discovered the secret of time travel! 1960s Flower Power Hippies wandered the corridors, 1970s Punks and Disco Divas sauntered through the playground… I even spotted a few pupils late for P1 with the excuse that they were ‘committed to their low energy 1990s grunge aesthetic’.
It was our Spring Dress Up Day and the theme was, of course, ‘Dress as a Decade’ – a theme decided upon by all of the pupils from Y7-Y13.
£828 was raised to support the vital work of Mvumi School, Tanzania by the efforts of our students and staff. I’m sure many parents enjoyed sharing the outfits of their youth with their daughters too!
What is the best thing about a Dress Up Day? (what were the girls excited about?)
“Dress Up Days are the perfect opportunity to break from the everyday routine and display the fun and creativity we all have. The girls were especially looking forward to planning their outfits with friends and seeing how everyone interpreted the theme in their own way. In our funky styles, we feel proud to be representing our school as a giving community – especially when it’s in support of one of our favorite charities.” – Mika, Year 12
Why do you think the pupils chose to raise money for Mvumi School?
“Students chose to raise money for Mvumi school as they realised the importance and relevance of supporting education and providing opportunities for students who may not have access to the same resources we do. By raising funds as a school, we hope to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students there, helping to provide them with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed. Finally, pupils were particularly drawn to supporting Mvumi because, as students ourselves, we understand and appreciate the value of education and its impact on our futures.” – Izzy, Year 12
