On Wednesday 22nd February, the School gathered at Holy Trinity Church to mark Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. The service, led by School Chaplain Revd. Van Der Hart and guest curate Revd. Jade Standley, reflected on the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for us and invited our school community to use Lent as a period of cleansing and repentance. Readings were delivered by Year 7 students, LVI students and the Headmistress, Lucy Elphinstone, before staff and students were invited to receive the ash cross on their foreheads as a sign of human mortality and repentance. Revd. Standley delivered a powerful talk about her journey with God, and how He turned a ‘mess’ into a ‘message’, inviting the FHS community to also open their hearts to His love. The service was a wonderful way to mark the start of Lent and thank you to Revd. Van Der Hart and Revd. Standley for leading us in worship.
