CO-CURRICULAR
Sixth Formers are actively encouraged to take a leading role in co-curricular life. Many clubs are student-led and Sixth Formers are encouraged to set up their own if a particular interest isn't represented.
CLUBS
There are more than 100 co-curricular clubs and societies available to Sixth Form students, running during lunchtimes and after school. Many are exclusive to the Sixth Form, giving students the freedom to explore interests, extend subject knowledge and engage with ideas beyond the classroom. Clubs are organised within our five-pronged SPARK structure: Sport & Health, Religion & Philosophy, Arts & Creativity, Skills & Development, and Knowledge & Innovation.
A defining feature of Sixth Form clubs is the opportunity for students to lead and innovate. Many societies are student-run, with Sixth Formers responsible for shaping their vision, planning activities and leading their peers. This might include developing sustainable solutions through STEAM initiatives such as Hydroponics or honing creative skills in a drama, music or art club. If a particular passion is not yet represented, students are actively encouraged and supported to establish their own clubs, building confidence, leadership and a lasting contribution to Sixth Form life.
TRIPS AND VISITS
At Francis Holland, Sixth Form life extends far beyond the classroom, enriched by an exceptional programme of UK and international trips. With London as our spectacular backdrop, students benefit from unparalleled access to the world’s leading museums, galleries, theatres and heritage sites. From the Globe Theatre to the British Museum, Tate Modern to Tate Britain, and the Houses of Parliament to the Old Bailey, hundreds of cultural and intellectual opportunities are just a short journey away.
Students are encouraged to engage independently with London life, supported by the termly FHS Calendar of Enriching Delights, which highlights lectures, exhibitions, performances and events of interest. Public lectures at institutions such as Imperial College, London are particularly popular.
Our international trips programme further broadens horizons, fostering independence, global awareness and lasting friendships. Recent Sixth Form trips have included subject-focused visits to Florence, Paris, Athens, New York and Venice, alongside Geography expeditions, language immersion experiences and a Surf and Yoga trip to Fuerteventura.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH
The Duke of Edinburgh Programme offers the ideal opportunity for Sixth Formers to challenge themselves and develop their leadership skills, both in mentoring younger year groups as they complete their Bronze or Silver Award and completing the Gold Award themselves. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award involves five sections: Volunteering, Learning a New Skill, Physical Recreation and Expeditions and a Residential Project.
As well as being a fantastic way to develop friendships, the Award allows pupils to showcase initiative, commitment, team-building and responsibility (and it’s fun too!). It’s also a recognised qualification that universities and future employers highly value and respect. Gaining an Award is a matter of pride, giving students a sense of achievement and a confidence that will remain with them for the rest of their life.
