On Tuesday 8th October, ten Year 8 students visited Amazon Head Office near Liverpool Street Station.
They arrived armed with their designs for an app for good. This was the brief given to them by their Ambassador Issy who visited the school to give an assembly at the end of Year 7. Year 8s have been working with AWS-Amazon web services, the branch of Amazon responsible for App Designing and Education. Having completed the beginning of their designs at school, students were able to attend the bootcamp to guide them on their design journey.
Students spent the day working with our AWS ambassadors who listened to their design ideas and helped to organise and focus the process. Some students delved further into the world of app design by looking at potential technology that could be incorporated into their plans. The day ended with a session on how to present confidently and how to give a good first impression, something that the FHS girls were very familiar with. The girls gave a three minute presentation to another school with a mere five minute preparation time – something that many adults would have struggled with! The presentation was a huge success, the girls confidently talked through all they had learnt on the day and how they planned to take this knowledge back to their groups at FHS.
The girls will now continue with their designs and two groups from Year 8 will be selected to represent the school in the countrywide competition. The winning app will be created by Amazon and will be available to download.
