On Monday, Year 8 visited Bhaktivedanta Manor, the beautiful Hare Krishna temple in Hertfordshire, as part of their TP Studies on Hinduism. It was a valuable opportunity to experience Hindu worship and community life firsthand, bringing to life many of the beliefs studied in class. From the moment they arrived, the students were respectful, attentive, and eager to learn.

A highlight was visiting the shrine room, where students discovered that each murti has a different outfit for every day of the year, an expression of devotion and artistry. We were also fortunate to visit at the start of Kartik month, a sacred period in the Hindu calendar when acts of worship and kindness are believed to bring multiplied blessings.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious paneer curry prepared by the temple’s community kitchen, which provides free vegetarian meals for visitors daily. This gave the students insight into the sacred nature of food in Hinduism and the importance of service to others.

The group explored the George Harrison Memorial Garden, learned about his role in establishing the temple, and took part in a workshop on Hindu deities and sacred objects. The girls enjoyed dressing in colourful saris, taking part in hand painting, adding to the happy atmosphere. Feeding the cows was another of the girls’ favourite activities!

The students asked thoughtful questions and showed genuine curiosity throughout. It was a wonderful day and Year 8 represented the school beautifully with excellent behaviour and enthusiasm.
