Our trip started on a Monday morning when we took a scenic drive down to Pembrokeshire Wales. When we arrived we settled into our spacious bell tents and had a lovely introduction to our welcoming and kind instructors. They put us into groups and our teachers made sure we were with our friends! Then, we were led into the quaint city of St David’s, the smallest city in the UK, to explore.
Every day the groups had different activities, each exploring nature, the outdoors and all the beautiful parts of Pembrokeshire. Our favourite activities included a boat trip to Ramsey Island where we were introduced to diverse wildlife including Atlantic Grey Seals, Harbour Porpoises and exotic gulls. We also experienced a coasteering adventure where we jumped from rocks into the Atlantic sea and explored caves. In addition, we visited a bug farm where we got to hold various insects and sample different foods made with them! We learnt that these insect-based foods are a more sustainable, protein-rich alternative to traditional sources.
Other activities included identifying species on the beach and cleaning and sorting plastics from the beach. We also worked in groups to create an B-Corp organisation idea which we then presented to the whole year at the end of the trip.
The home-cooked meals we received were sustainably sourced and were delicious and nutritious and kept us energised for the activity-filled day ahead!
Overall we had a fun packed and memorable trip to Wales learning more about nature and global sustainability – we will miss it a lot!
