Year 8 Charity Reps Visit to KLS

23/04/2026

The Year 8 Charity Reps visited Katherine Low Settlement this Thursday to talk to the Elders at the Lunch Club. The girls were gratefully received, with many of the elders sending their heartfelt thanks for the Easter Eggs and cards provided by Year 8 at the end of the Spring Term.

Lavinia in Year 8 reports:

“If you didn’t know, KLS stands for Katherine Low Settlement and it’s a charity that as FHS we support. It’s based in Battersea and was established in 1924. It aims to support the community by reducing poverty and isolation, offering programs for children, young people, older adults, and refugees. KLS provides various services, including English language classes, mentoring, and community events, letting the people thrive, learn more and socialise with others.

When we arrived, we were greeted by the wonderful KLS staff and then we were brought to their lunch club for us to socialise with the elderly people. It was a very enlightening experience talking to them and learning about their lives. I had an amazing time and thank you to Mr Galloway and Miss Manelski for organising the trip.”

It was very gratifying to see how thoughtful, compassionate, and mature our Year 8 students were as they got to know the elders, demonstrating the wonderful FHS school values of courage and kindness.

I’m so proud of the way in which our current Year 8 students carried our century-long relationship with KLS forward!
