Year 7 enjoyed an outstanding residential trip to Calshot Activity Centre, beginning with a smooth arrival after a lively and cheerful coach journey filled with card games and singing. Once settled into their rooms, the girls threw themselves into an energetic programme of activities, including kayaking on the Solent, orienteering, climbing, high ropes and archery. Kayaking on the river proved to be a memorable challenge, with strong winds making conditions demanding; however, the girls showed impressive perseverance and determination as they worked together to navigate the water. Their positive attitude and collaborative spirit were evident from the start, and the evening provided a fun and relaxed opportunity for beach exploration, games and a popular hair-braiding session before everyone settled down well for a restful night.
The second day proved to be equally engaging and action-packed, with a varied timetable including kayaking, Ringo rides, crate stacking, climbing and orienteering. The girls approached each activity with enthusiasm and confidence, embracing new challenges and supporting one another throughout. It was especially rewarding to see many pupils reach the top of the climbing wall, demonstrating both courage and resilience. Although the weather deteriorated later in the day, requiring some groups to take part in an indoor adventure course instead of kayaking, the alternative activities were equally enjoyable and stimulating. New friendships flourished while existing ones deepened, and the girls continued to represent the school exceptionally well through their commitment and positivity. The day concluded with a calm and enjoyable movie night.
On the final day, the girls showed maturity and responsibility as they packed their belongings efficiently and left their rooms neat and tidy. The morning featured a final selection of stimulating activities, including Epic Engineering challenges, Aerotrek, climbing and team initiative tasks, with the Aerotrek zipwire standing out as a particularly exciting highlight. During Epic Engineering, the girls worked collaboratively on Dragon’s Den–style projects, presenting a range of inventive creations such as a Meccano bird-watching device, supportive ski equipment, a portable travel cot and many other imaginative designs. Although strong winds once again led to some programme changes, the alternative activities ensured a fulfilling and rewarding end to the trip.
As we journeyed back to school, it was clear that the residential had been a highly successful and enriching experience. The girls demonstrated admirable resilience, enthusiasm and teamwork throughout, and it has been a genuine pleasure to see their confidence and independence develop over the course of the trip.
