On Monday 11th November, the whole of Year 7 were honoured to have Clare Twomey MBE visit us for the day in the Art Department.
Clare Twomey MBE is a British artist and a research fellow at the University of Westminster who works with clay in large-scale installations, Sculpture and site-specific works. Over the past 10 years, she has exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Tate, Crafts Council, Museum of Modern Art Kyoto Japan, the Eden Project and the Royal Academy of Arts.
All girls made a delicate clay structure, based upon an organism called Coccolithophores (always very difficult to pronounce!) These have a very important role in the reduction of carbon in the worlds oceans. This clay workshop is part of the Year 7 art contribution to the whole school Cape Farewell project, that concludes in an exhibition next Summer.
Well done to all the girls and a huge thank you to Clare Twomey. It was a pleasure to work with you for the day.
Mr Edes, Joint Head of Art
