Year 10 Westmacott FHPQ Finals

03/07/2026

The first year of the Westmacott Programme culminated in the Francis Holland Project Qualification Finals. The FHPQ is the third and final component of the Westmacott Programme, and in it Year 10 have been developing their independent research skills, oracy, and powers of evaluation. What began with a museum trip in March has resulted in the delivery of so many outstanding Verbal Reports that really impressed the judges yesterday.

Having visited the V&A or Science Museum to select an object to research, these artefacts became a springboard which allowed the girls to go on to explore a more specialised and focused area of independent investigation. Utilising JSTOR and other sources, all of Year 10 have learnt valuable skills which they will be able to draw on next year, as well as in the Sixth Form and at university.

Yesterday we heard the Class Heat finalists deliver their Verbal Reports to all of Yeat 10. With just 1 slide showing their artefact, the girls were reliant on their research and their own verbal skills to communicate their findings and conclusions to the audience, and this was done with great skill by all teams.

Congratulations to overall winners Sophie E and Nell D!
