The Step into Sixth Form Day 2026 was an invigorating and enlightening experience that really exposed the Year 10 students participating to the Sixth Form life and environment. This allowed us to properly immerse ourselves into A Level learning, as well as enjoy the great resources in the OSH. The day began with a lovely presentation explaining the A Level course, and the variety of subjects offered at FHS. We heard from our seasoned Deputy Head Girls on their Sixth Form experiences, what they like and don’t, and received some top tips on how to master the course. We did a Q&A before the theme of the day was introduced, the controversy surrounding the Elgin Marbles, a topic that linked each of the subjects they’d get a taste into that day, spanning over Politics, History, Engineering, History of Art, Classical Civilisation and Economics. This approach to learning allowed each student to appreciate the different lenses of A Level courses to approach the same topic and gave us a sense of what a class in the Sixth Form would feel like. We were also introduced to the EPQ process (Extended Project Qualification), where we listened to our Head Girl, Bea’s presentation. It was eye-opening in the level of depth expected at the EPQ level, and the work that goes into producing something of that quality. The entire day, we noticed, had been planned meticulously to demonstrate the type of student-led learning offered in the FHS Sixth Form, with class debates and discussions at the forefront of the learning adventure. The Step into Sixth day was, overall, a highly informative experience, which left each Year 10 pupil excited for the years to come.
