This week, we welcomed Alistair Harris, a former UK diplomat and UN investigator who was appointed for an OBE in 2013 for services to stability in Lebanon. He has worked in multiple countries in conflict such as Syria, Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan and many others. During his presentation on ‘climate and conflict’, he taught us about the unintended repercussions that industrialisation causes on countries where the climate is a crucial component of their everyday lives and influences their economic development and therefore can cause conflict. It was educational for us to learn how our generation will be most impacted by this escalating problem and be made aware of how it may develop in the coming years if we do not mitigate the detrimental effects of climate change.
