Professor John Mullan, veteran of many FHS Lit Soc lectures over the years, got the new Sixth Form Speaker Programme off to a flying start on Thursday evening.

His talk was entitled ‘Literary Endings’ and moved with erudition and apparent effortlessness across passages from Fielding, Austen, Dickens and Shakespeare, making unlikely links with TV series such as ‘Bodyguard’ along the way.
As ever, his delivery was theatrical and entertaining, and never has the reading or re-reading of great novels seemed more important. There was an excellent turnout, not only amongst members of the Sixth Form but members of staff and visitors too.
