Today, 60 students from Year 9 and the Computer Scientists from Year 10 took part in a Robotics Workshop provided by Richer Education.

The workshops, kindly provided by the Francis Holland Parents’ Association, gave the girls a chance to see how robots are created, utilised and controlled. As the girls sat in pairs, they were handed a robot and a laptop. To begin with, nothing happened – but then, as Lead Tutor, Agostino began explaining the formulas and software needed to make the robots move, the pupils’ started furiously typing away as they programmed their very own robots! After only a few minutes, cries of delight were heard as the devices started whizzing around the tables! As well as being a lot of fun, the workshops have also taught the girls how to programme using a variety of languages, the development and construction of robots and the application in the real world. The application of Physics within Robotics was also noted by a number of girls and how there is clear overlap between the two sciences.

Thank you so much to the Parent’s Association for providing this opportunity for the girls.

Lots more photos to come tomorrow, so keep an eye out!
