This week we have several Outreach Superstars of the Week.
On Tuesday Vittoria, Kasia, Stephanie and Sibella (Y7), helped to collect in our Foodbank donations, which went to the Hammersmith and Fulham Foodbank. Along with Cosima (Y9), they sorted through all of the generous donations and helped Steve to put them in the back of the van. All of that food will then be sorted out at the warehouse and go to families in need in West London.
It’s also been Christian Aid Week, which we’ve marked with a couple of events in the playground. On Thursday we hosted the very first Pea Throwing World Championships in the playground, in which students and teachers battled to see who could throw a pea the furthest distance. Superstar pea-thrower Sophia Lenhard (Y9) ended up being our winner with a throw of 23.68m. Wow! Honourable mentions should also go to Izzy Andrew (Y8) who threw her pea 21.80m, a close second, and Alexia Favre (Y8) who threw her pea 20.20m! This event was to raise awareness of the plight of farmers in Malawi, who are being supported to grow drought resistant crops (like the pigeon pea) to combat the effects of climate change. Huge thanks to Mrs Newsome, Mr Eapen, Mr Dyson, Mr Amaraz, and the army of ‘Pea Spotters’ that found runaway peas (esca-peas?) and logged their distances. Whoever thought that petit-pois would be hard to spot on a green playground?
And on Friday the Exploring Christianity Group ran a very lively and successful bake sale! Delicious treats were enjoyed by all, including some cakes baked by Mrs Buchanan and Miss Bhatti! A new game of ‘donut roulette’ also proved popular (who would have guessed?) Most importantly, £111.70 was raised for Christian Aid!
Christian Aid is a charity that helps people in poverty across the world. They help anyone, regardless of religion or beliefs, and have led huge charitable giving campaigns for over 75 years. We are so happy to support their campaigns each year at FHS!
