Over 60 alumni returned to Francis Holland to celebrate the School’s Birthday with their Reunion Lunch on Saturday 4th March.
It was a fantastic celebration of former students and staff with guests travelling from as far away as USA. Former Headmistresses, Miss Stephanie Pattenden and Mrs Jennifer Anderson, former Chair of Governors, Mrs Catherine Longworth, and the current Chair of Governors, Mrs Marie Winckler, were also in attendance.
Following the Old Girls’ Society AGM, in which annual reports were presented and committee members re-elected, a drinks reception was held in the Lecture Theatre. Here, a number of displays were also on show which drew much attention; these included a memorial board for Prudence Scrivener and archival documents. There was also a board of form photos which saw guests eagerly help to identify each individual shown.
After a welcome by Chair of the Society, Mrs Susannah Graham-Campbell, everyone moved to the hall for lunch. A delicious meal was served followed by dessert, teas and coffees. Next, current pupils presented a delightful ballet performance which captivated all at lunch. Included in their programme were traditional dances as well as tales of Red Riding Hood and Alice in Wonderland.
In the hall there was also a display about the School’s current building developments, copies of the Magazine and the recently published Old Girls’ annual Newsletter.
Current Headmistress, Mrs Lucy Elphinstone, closed the afternoon by thanking all those attending and for their continued support to Francis Holland.
This was a lovely reunion of students from many eras of the schools history sharing stories and memories from their time at Francis Holland. We very much look forward to inviting our Old Girls to future alumni events.
