On Friday 16th, I had the privilege of attending a Model United Nations (MUN) conference at St Paul’s Boys’ School as part of an FHS school-run delegation. The conference brought together highly motivated students from a range of schools to debate global issues in a dynamic and academically demanding environment.
I took part in the World Health Organization (WHO) committee as a member of the Poland delegation, alongside another team from FHS, who were representing Pakistan. Representing Poland was both challenging and rewarding, requiring research on national healthcare systems, and the role of international cooperation in addressing public health crises. Engaging in debate from this perspective encouraged me to think critically and develop more understanding of global health inequalities.
The level of debate throughout the conference was extremely impressive. Committee sessions were fast-paced and engaging, with delegates confidently presenting arguments, responding to points of information, and working collaboratively to draft comprehensive resolutions. Participating in these discussions significantly strengthened my confidence in public speaking, negotiation, and teamwork, while also sharpening my ability to think analytically under pressure.
Attending MUN at St Paul’s Boys’ School as part of an FHS delegation was an incredibly enriching experience, and very fun!! It offered valuable insight into the practical workings of international institutions such as the United Nations and reinforced the importance of diplomacy and collaboration in tackling global health challenges. Overall, the conference was both inspiring and memorable, further strengthening my enthusiasm for international relations and global affairs, as something I want to go into in the future.
