Lower School Choir Tour to Barcelona

08/05/2026

Over the May Bank Holiday, 45 members of the Lower School Choir travelled to Spain for this year’s annual Choir Tour. It was a fantastic group of staff and students, with a packed agenda of cultural and team-building excursions ahead. We performed at 3 fantastic venues around Barcelona, including singing at the 1001-year-old Montserrat Monastery, and listening to their world-famous boys’ choir. The girls sounded fantastic and we are so proud of their manner and conduct throughout the long trip. It was a brilliant opportunity for the girls to bond and work on their teamwork, as well as fine musical detail and musicianship in stunning acoustics. The word cloud from the student feedback has three standout words, ‘interesting’, ‘adventurous’ and (the most popular word of all) ‘fun!’. A huge thank you to the fantastic singers, as well as Ms Berk, Mrs Hanrahan, Miss Murata, and Miss Vickery for being a superb team throughout the trip.

“Our Lower School Choir had a memorable trip to Barcelona from the 2nd to the 5th of May. On the first day, we performed our opening concert at Eglesia de Castell de Castelldefels before heading to Port Aventura Theme Park for an exciting afternoon. The second day was spent exploring the city and shopping, followed by another concert at St Gaieta Church and an evening meal at Vapiano Gran Via. On our final day, we visited Montserrat Monastery, where we sang and listened to the incredible Escolania de Montserrat (the famous boys’ choir who sing every day). My favourite part was singing at the monastery and exploring it, as well as visiting the theme park. Thank you to the music department for organising this wonderful trip, and to our travel guide Paloma for making everything run smoothly.” – Lavinia, Year 8

“The choir trip was incredibly fun! After the landing in Barcelona, we got to the hotel, to find a Spanish buffet! . After a long night of rest, we visited a beautiful castle and had the privilege to sing in its chapel. Later that day, we went to Port Adventura and it was most likely the highlight of the trip! After getting home, the teachers took us on a relaxing walk along the beach. The next day, despite our plans shifting slightly, the teachers made our day enjoyable with games on the beach and shopping in Barcelona! Before returning home the next day, we sang in the Montserrat monastery. Overall, the teachers made the choir trip extremely fun and enjoyable! Thank you very much FHS!” – Kira, Year 7
