The Junior School put on a magnificent Cake Sale with all contributions donated to their international charity, Mary’s Meals. The girls are raising money for the lunches at Bondo School in southern Malawi. The aim is to feed all 677 students of Bondo School for an entire year. The fundraiser saw a huge array of every type of cake, cookie and brownie which even Mary Berry would have been wowed by. With some help from their parents and family at home, the girls baked hundreds of delicious cakes and raised a total of £739.86!

More about Bondo School, Malawi:

  • Bondo school is a mixed primary school in the Blantyre district in the south of Malawi.
  • It has a total enrolment of 677 children, 349 boys and 328 girls.
  • The food these children receive in Malawi is a soya and maize porridge enriched with vitamins and minerals, which is known locally as likuni phala. This is locally sourced, which is good for the local economy and for the environment, and normally cooked in enormous pans by the charity’s amazing volunteers from the local community, many of them relatives of the children being fed.
  • While schools were closed because of the Covid19 pandemic, the porridge has been distributed in the community for the families of school children to collect and cook for their children at home.
  • Mary’s Meals was born in Malawi!
  • Mary’s Meals has a fantastic impact on the lives of the children and their communities through both the food and the education these children receive.
