Lower Sixth pupils began their journey to university last night by attending the Higher Education Evening.

The girls and their parents attended an enlightening evening filled with speakers providing useful advice on the admissions process, what to look for in a university and what to expect in your first year of university.
Following an introduction by Mrs Elphinstone, we welcomed Mike Nicholson from the University of Bath to give insights into how to research courses. Next, Mr Dyson spoke candidly about cover letters, and Ms Geussens and Ms Arlington gave specific information related to Oxbridge and art foundation courses respectively.
We were pleased to also hear from three alumni during the evening. Priya Kapoor (class of 1988), who works for the University of Southern California, gave details about the American university system. She was followed by Alice Beddows and Bella Charlton (both from last year’s Head Girls’ Team) who discussed the highs (and lows!) of their first year at university.
Finally, Mrs Banks and Mrs Sawyer gave a roundup of the process and highlighted that students can also consider taking gap years or apprenticeship options.
This was a wonderful evening for our girls who are now starting to think about their futures beyond Francis Holland.
