All of Year 9 had a French-History cross-curricular lesson on Monday, exploring what life was like in an occupied country during the Second World War.

Mr Calvet and Miss Boon team taught the lesson in French and English, and the girls had the opportunity to see what it is like to work as a professional historian drawing on original documents. The documents in question were a selection of original correspondence from Mr Calvet’s grandfather, dating from when he was working in a labour camp in Germany. Year 9 consulted these to draw inferences and reach conclusions about different peopleÂ’s experiences in wartime France, and to consider the challenges that historians face in piecing together what has happened in the past.
