We are extremely proud of the charity work, fundraising and volunteering initiatives undertaken by members of the Francis Holland community in recent weeks.
Following an urgent request from Pimlico Health Centre, Head of Science, Miss Mclaren and the FHS Science Department organised the donation of PPE supplies, including 200 goggles, 30 face masks and 10 packets of gloves. A huge thank you to our Science Technician, Elizabeth, for collecting all of the equipment together in time for the delivery.
Fantastic support has also been offered by our community to two charities very close to FHS. Covid-19 has created even more demand for charities such as the Katherine Low Settlement and In-Deep Community Task Force and they are adapting to ensure they can help everyone in need during these challenging times. 13 pupils in Year 9 and 10 have established contact with In-Deep patrons through the In-Deep Pen Pal Programme. Furthermore, immediately prior to School closing, many girls and staff brought in foodstuffs to pass to both KLS and In-Deep. £350 worth of perishable food supplies from our kitchens (including 240 eggs!) were delivered to KLS by the Headmistress, Mrs Elphinstone.
Over the Easter break, Director of Creative Enterprise, Mr Dyson, launched CoFight-19; a national campaign to fight the fear of the coronavirus. The 19-day campaign offered expert advice for parents, support for pupils and innovative and creative activities for families. The campaign was an enormous success and attracted support from leaders in education, including the GSA and Schools Together.
An enormous thank you to all of our pupils who have offered support to their local community in recent weeks. Many of our pupils have visited neighbours, delivered shopping or collected prescriptions, and others have volunteered for the NHS or local food banks.
We are currently planning many more fundraising activities for the coming weeks.
