Photos from Headmistress, Mrs Lucy Elphinstone’s trip to Uganda where she is teaching at the “King of Kings School” which is a recent FHS initiative.
Mrs Elphinstone left laden with sports equipment and supplies including spare FHS uniform for pupils. (Please note the primary school pupils in the FHS uniform Mrs Elphinstone took with her in the photo below!)
We look forward to further updates from her trip where she has experienced the tremendous need for help from us in terms of food, sanitation and health in particular.
King of Kings School support
For the next five years Francis Holland School Sloane Square will be supporting a school in Uganda called ‘King of Kings’. 20 years of conflict between the rebel forces, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and the Government of Uganda in the north of the country have forced over millions of people to flee the war, leaving thousands of children both orphaned and traumatised. Schools like King of Kings provide education and a much needed place of refuge for such children. Our aims are to support this school, the children within it and the community of Iganga in which the school lies. Our support will manifest itself in many ways over the years, not only financial but also through the supply of uniforms and equipment. We are also very keen to build a close bond with the school, thereby allowing our exsixth formers to visit as part of a gap year project.
This year we will be encouraging the students, especially those in year 10, to devise and run activities that will raise funds to support the ‘King of Kings’. Such activities will enable the pupils to think beyond the curriculum and get an idea of how it is to interact with the world outside of the classroom.
This is an exciting and bold venture the school is undertaking and we look forward to forming a close and enduring partnership with ‘King of Kings’ for many years to come.
