TRANSITION TO SENIOR SCHOOL
The move from Preparatory or Junior School to Senior School is an exciting milestone, and at Francis Holland Sloane Square we take great care to ensure every girl joining Year 7 feels welcomed, secure and supported from the outset.
A STRONG START
We are committed to ensuring every girl makes the strongest possible start to life at Francis Holland Sloane Square. Our dedicated transition team, led by our longest-serving member of staff (of over 32 years!) and Director of Pupil Integration, Madame Lenec’h, works closely with students to make the transition smooth, welcoming and confidence-building. From academic guidance to pastoral support, we focus on helping each girl feel known, valued and ready to thrive in her new environment. Through careful planning, mentoring from older students, tailored support and a warm, inclusive approach, we ensure that moving up to the Senior School is not just a step, but an exciting beginning full of opportunities, friendships, and discovery. Girls are supported by a dedicated Form Tutor, alongside access to our School Nurse and Counselling team. Parents are kept closely informed through regular communications and our weekly newsletter.
TRANSITION PROGRAMME
Our transition programme begins early in the Summer Term prior to joining with a Year 7 Activity Afternoon, a relaxed, team-building event led by Sixth Formers, designed to help girls get to know one another, build friendships and feel part of the community before they start. This is followed by visits to pupils’ prep or junior schools, allowing us to get to know each pupil in her familiar environment and ensure a smooth, personalised start.
In June, girls return for a Welcome Afternoon, with a separate programme of events for parents and girls, ahead of their formal Induction Day in September. A full bonding day in the first half of the term, gives pupils time to deepen friendships and settle fully into school life.
This carefully structured approach ensures every girl begins her Francis Holland journey feeling known, supported and excited for the years ahead.
