Subject choices

Francis Holland School offers a wide choice of AS and A Level subjects, including some, such as Economics, Psychology and History of Art, that are not offered further down the school.

It is usual to take four or occasionally five AS Levels in the Lower VI and either three or four A Levels in the Upper VI.  We always create our timetable after our prospective sixth formers have made their subject choices.  This allows us to construct the time table around the preferences of the girls, rather than asking them to fit into a pre-arranged blocking system.  It allows for unusual combinations of subjects and it is an important part of our commitment to each girl as an individual.

In line with the preferences of many universities, sixth formers are encouraged to seek breadth in their A Level choices and a girl may, for example, choose a humanities subject or language to combine with sciences or Mathematics.
