Physics
Physics is interesting, rewarding and highly relevant to today's
society. However, it is considered a challenging A' Level choice.
Anyone considering it should have a good grade in GCSE Physics or
Double Science and have good mathematical ability.
Looking beyond A' Levels, Physics is in great demand by employers
and by universities for careers in any scientific field, industry
or medicine.
The new A' Level specification is divided into six units where
units 1, 2 and 3 constitute the AS course. Candidates for both AS
and A' Level will have their practical skills assessed externally.
The subject content of the six units is as follows:
Unit 1 Mechanics and Radioactivity
Unit 2 Electricity and Thermal Physics
Unit 3 Option: Astrophysics, Medical Physics, Material or Particle
Physics
Unit 4 Waves and our Universe
Unit 5 Fields and Forces
Unit 6 Synthesis
Physics is a rigorous subject which is highly respected in fields
such as Law and in the City. The problem solving skills demonstrated
by Physicists are recognised by all employers. |
