Environment/Geography Club

This is a group that works to bring about environmental awareness in the context of the school. Girls take part in a range of activities that inform and educate the school community about our responsibility to reduce our global footprint. They are also encouraged to take practical action community to bring about realistic changes to the local environment.

For example, we have been campaigning to encourage girls and staff at Francis Holland to save electricity and thus reduce carbon foot print.  We had a two week campaign in which students where asked to 'Switch on to Switching off' and say 'Goodbye to Stand by'.  Students were asked to make sure that the lights were turned off when they left a classroom and that they did not leave equipment on standby.  We saved approximately £546 over two weeks which is a good indicator of how much electricity we saved and therefore how we reduced our carbon emissions.
