Francis Holland School, Graham Terrace is an Independent
Day School for about 470 girls between ages of 4 and 18.
There are presently 300 girls in the senior school.
The school was founded by the Reverend
Francis Holland, Canon of Canterbury
Cathedral, in 1881. It has been on its
present site since 1884 but the buildings
have been enlarged over the years to meet
the needs of modern education. The 1996
development programme consisted of a new
building for Art, Science, Technology and
Gymnasium and extensive refurbishment of
an existing building for a new Library and
enhanced Sixth Form accommodation.
The school's relatively small size
encourages a sense of community and many
former pupils stay in contact. Each girl
is treated as an individual and her
personal and academic welfare is
constantly reviewed. Our central London
location makes it possible to take girls
of all ages to museums, exhibitions,
concerts and theatres.
The curriculum broadly follows the
National Curriculum so that all girls take
a balanced range of subjects at GCSE. We
offer a full range of subjects a A level
with great flexibility of subject
combinations and small teaching groups.
This is supported by a programme of
General Studies and careers advice. High
standards of work and behaviour are
expected and considerable emphasis is
placed on self-discipline and
consideration for others. There is a House
System throughout the school which gives
junior girls opportunity for contact with
the seniors. The school foundation is
Anglican but welcomes girls of all faiths.
All girls attend daily assemblies,
occasional church services and may be
prepared for confirmation if they
wish.
We hope that girls will develop a broad
range of skills so that when they leave
Francis Holland they are equipped with the
qualifications, independence of spirit,
adaptability and self-confidence to meet
the challenges of their chosen career
paths.
A web site can only give you a glimpse
of the life of a school, so please come to
one of our Open Days when you, and your
daughter, will be able to see the school
in action for yourselves.
