‘Unlocking the mysteries of the Credit Crunch and the Global Recession ‘

If  ever a subject was relevant to your life and future on the planet it is Economics now! There are powerful arguments and debates about our economic futures and with a basic knowledge of the ideas and terms used in Economics you can formulate your own opinions and perspective.

Studying Economics will include the use of newspaper and magazine articles, DVD’S and television programmes; this allows the subject to be exciting, current and relevant. The subject gives a depth of understanding which allows girls to discuss and gain confidence in discussing the important issues of today.

Economics is only available in the sixth form and is chosen by girls with diverse interests and subject choices. It is an ideal subject for those girls who have a passion for world events and  current affairs and have an enthusiasm for debate and argument.

The Department is run by Mr.Wadsworth who graduated from the London School of Economics (many years ago)and has taught in universities, colleges of further education and sixth forms. He has written text books and case studies used throughout the U.K.

The Department has successfully supported girls applying to the very best universities including the L.S.E, Oxford and Warwick in recent years. In order to support and encourage girls to aspire to the very best universities, it is a departmental policy to encourage leavers to come back during their first year at university to share their experiences.

Although there is no formal link with the L.S.E. girls are encouraged to attend public lectures in the evening and in the summer term the Lower Sixth group collectively attend the L.S.E. Open Day.
